Job Purpose:
The Portfolio Development Manager is responsible for leading the delivery of complex technology initiatives across our SVOD platform ecosystem. This role oversees a team of delivery professionals and manages strategic vendor relationships to ensure seamless content delivery, platform operations, and syndication workflows while maintaining exceptional service quality and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
Delivery Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor a team of Development Managers.
- Instil a culture of delivery excellence by defining sprint cadence, managing release cycles, and enforcing non-negotiable timeline commitments.
- Define and implement delivery methodologies, standards, and best practices.
- Facilitate planning ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and sprint reviews.
- Ensure all initiatives have documented timelines, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies prior to execution.
- Act as the central liaison between Product, Engineering, external vendors, and Editorial/Compliance to align scope, priorities, and delivery expectations.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Product Managers and other departments to ensure aligned delivery outcomes.
- Oversee external vendors and internal development teams through Development Managers to promote clear communication, collaboration, and coordinated execution toward shared delivery goals.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage strategic relationships with external development vendors and technology partners.
- Negotiate project scope, timelines, and deliverables with vendor teams.
- Establish and maintain vendor performance standards and ensure SLA compliance.
- Coordinate cross-functional delivery across Product, Engineering, Editorial, Operations, and Compliance teams.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery issues and vendor performance concerns.
- Facilitate cross-team ceremonies such as stand-ups, retrospectives, and release planning.
Platform Delivery Excellence
- Oversee delivery of SVOD platform features, content management systems, and syndication capabilities.
- Ensure seamless integration between O&O platforms and external distribution channels (Amazon, Apple, Roku, etc.).
- Drive implementation of platform enhancements and new market launches.
- Coordinate delivery of linear/fast channel implementations and EPG solutions.
Process & Performance Management
- Implement delivery tracking and reporting using Jira, Confluence, and other tools.
- Define KPIs for delivery performance, vendor efficiency, and project success.
- Provide regular delivery updates, risk logs, and mitigation plans to senior leadership.
- Conduct quarterly vendor performance reviews with formal scorecards.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on delivery metrics and retrospectives.
Strategic Planning & Risk Management
- Support technology delivery roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
- Conduct risk assessments for all software and content delivery.
- Create and maintain project budgets with cost tracking and variance analysis.
- Identify and mitigate delivery risks before they impact timelines or quality.
- Establish escalation protocols and communication frameworks for critical issues.
Knowledge and Experience:
Experience
- Experience in managing external vendor relationships and development teams.
- Experience years in streaming media, SVOD, or digital platform environments.
- Proven track record of delivering complex technology projects on time and within budget.
- Experience managing teams of 3–5 delivery professionals.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in agile development methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of SVOD platform architecture and content delivery workflows.
- Knowledge of streaming technologies, metadata management, and syndication processes.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and content management systems.
- Understanding of API integrations, feed management, and platform distribution.
- Experience with project management tools (Jira, Confluence, Airtable).
Soft Skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Strong vendor relationship management capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management across all organizational levels.
- Data-driven decision making with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to establish accountability and drive delivery excellence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Background in media operations or broadcast technology.
- Experience with streaming platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, etc.).
- Desirable not essential: PMP, Prince2, or Agile certification.
